According to architect Jean Nouvel, the shape of the Torre Agbar was inspired by the mountains of Montserrat (see Catalonia 1 album). It is definitely phallic in shape and has various nicknames, of which "The Gherkin" is not one. At night It stands out like a sore ... thumb, due to 4500 LED devices that illuminate it. These are computer controlled and can be seen to change and images can be programmed to appear over the surface. Not a bad canvas to work with.
