Artwork in Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, Madrid
Henry VIII by Hans Holbein the Younger, c1537 Strikes me that the canvas was bigger than at present, as the hands are cut off and the hat top is very close to the top of the frame. The picture seems very cramped and I am guessing that a powerful King would want to have his very expensive rings on his fingers shown to full advantage as symbols of his wealth and power.
